RONDONOPOLIS, Brazil (DTN) -- The outlook is bleak for Brazil´s corn growers this season as prices remain below the cost of production in all but one region of the country.

Local farmer Joel Strobel, who planted more than 6,500 acres of second-crop corn near Rondonopolis, in the southeast corner of Mato Grosso, will take a loss this season as prices plummet to under $2.20 per bushel.

"The main problem is lack of liquidity. There are very few buyers and a lot of corn on offer," said Strobel, who added that farmers are unwilling to sell at under $2.70 per bushel.
